nGlide – Glide Wrapper – nGlide Free Download (NGLIDE.exe)

nGlide is a wrapper for 3Dfx’s Voodoo Glide. It enables you to play games that use the 3Dfx Glide API without requiring a 3Dfx Voodoo graphics card. Glide 2.11 (glide.dll), Glide 2.60 (glide2x.dll) and Glide 3.10 API versions are all supported (glide3xdll).

nGlide uses Direct3D and Vulkan to imitate the Glide environment. High-resolution modes are also supported by Glide wrapper. You can also check GIMP DDS Plugin.

What is nGlide?

nGlide is a Glide Wrapper that works with all three versions of the API (glide.dll, glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll). Users who do not have a 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics card can us it to play games created for the 3Dfx Glide API.

Glide is a three-dimensional application programming interface for computer graphics. 3dfx Interactive created it as an open-source project for their three-dimensional accelerator cards. Glide is built on a major graphics library’s world view (OpenGL) and fundamental geometry.

What is Glide?

Glide is a 3D graphics API developed by 3dfx Interactive for their Voodoo Graphics 3D accelerator cards. Although it began as a proprietary API 3dfx subsequently decided to open source it. It was focused on rendering efficiency, especially providing geometry and texture mapping in data formats that were identical to those used internally in their graphics cards.

Glide was widely used in the late 1990s due to widespread adoption of 3Dfx but further refining of Microsoft’s Direct3D and the arrival of full OpenGL implementations from other graphics card suppliers as well as rising diversity in 3D hardware, finally rendered it obsolete.

Since the late 1990s, developers have been working on a glide emulator. During 3dfx’s existence, the firm was adamant about putting a end to attempts to replicate their proprietary API, shutting down early emulation efforts and threatening them with legal action.

However, just before ceasing business and selling its assets to Nvidia, 3dfx released the Glide API as well as the Voodoo 2 and Voodoo 3 specs under an open source license, which later blossomed into an open source project.
